Trend alert: Hot in leopard

Many people dress down when the winter is closing in, afraid to stand out from the crowd. Fall and winter doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t look your best. What’s hot this fall and winter? Leopard!

Animal detailed patterns go in and out of fashion all the time, but the best time to wear it, is always in the fall and winter season. Leopard patterns is always one of the hottest in fall, especially amongst accessories, such as boots, scarves and bags. Designers like Dsquared2 and Michael Kors showed leopard on the catwalk.

Even though leopard is not new to the crowd, it’s an easy way of putting color on a dull outfit. Celebs like Kate Moss, Leighton Meester and Ashley Smpson are more than happy wearing a cool leopard detail.

This year, people are also focusing on colorful varieties of the pattern. After Lanvin created blue colored leopard dresses for the spring/summer collection 2009, color has appeared in many varieties. Dresses, scarves, bags in pink and purple, blue and red leopard, in addition to the regular brown and black pattern. The large scarf Leighton Meester recently acquired from Louis Vuitton, is available in several colors, and are demanded as never before. Everything from celebs to fashion bloggers.

For those of you that did not read my entry on Jimmy Choo, a Jimmy Choo collection for H&M was recently launched. This collection contains a lot of hot leopard and zebra prints. The designer Tamara Mellom, is known for her jet-set life and overly dramatic animal prints. Everyone knew she would bring it to H&M!

I guess you’re all thinking how to wear leopard by now. Well, heres the deal:

A dress or a jacket in leopard, is always a statement, and you should not be afraid to use it. Be out there. The same goes for tights and tops. If you think those large garments are not for you, go for a detailed boot, ballerina, scarf or a bag. You must also remember that it’s never out of fashion to be inspired by celebrities.

Let the leopard be in focus, and never use more than one leopard printed item at the same time. With leopard, the rule is “less is more”. How do I combine colors? Leopard fits nicely with black, brown gray, but never be afraid to try out new things! It can be a success, and you might end up as the fashion icon.

I thought I was the only one who noticed. Thanks for this post. I’ve never been a fan of leopard print but some people can pull this look off well while others may encounter come difficulty. I wonder if the problem with Leighton is the cut/style of her dress rather than the leopard print. It’s more or less a babydoll dress in leopard print and that is sending the wrong signal with the statement she’s trying to make. Maybe next time, Leighton. I still love, you. haha

I love the jacket Blake is wearing but not sure about everything else she is wearing with it. It’s hurting my eyes. It’s almost as if she got dressed in the dark. I say this because Blake’s fashion sense is one of my fave on Gossip Girl and off screen as well. She is definitely an up and coming fashion icon for young women.

Sarah Jessica is always a hit or miss with me. Since she IS Carrie Bradshaw, I’ll let it slide!

Maybe it was one of those NYC mornings when you wake up and decide you want a bag & schmear. So, you grab anything you can see, knowing you look a mess but do not care. You run down the stairs to your local deli, grab a few items and bring up stairs to sit down eat, drink coffee and read your morning paper. Oh, NYC, How we love thee! lol

Sorry for the story! I had to make a good story to excuse the major fashion no-no!

  5. Haha, maybe she wanted bag & schmear, but she ended up with bad & schmuck!
